In most cases you can click on an image and a seperate page will
open with details of that image and sometimes explanations of
the image sources, process, etc. Note that the details of each collage painting that appear after you click the finished version,
are usually shot at an angle to reveal some of the texture and
techniques of the painted surface as well as some of the
unique "treasures" hidden in the composition.
These "treasures" -little tricks of the eye or references to my oil or watercolor paintings, etc. as well as my playing with
the images to make them interesting , keep viewers looking over
and over at the paintings, searching them out and discovering
them over time. Due to the angles that the paintings are shot,
there are distortions of focus and occasional glare on the
canvas or painted glazes, and textures - the area of sharp focus and
clarity (a painted trompe l'oeil technique or faux texture, etc.),
thus being highlighted.

This added hand painting, textures, etc. (a good deal of "kitchen work")
along with the "hidden treasures" are two of the major factors that
distinquish these works from a typical photo collage or
digital collage - they are in fact each unique -

The following 6 portraits where done for my 2009 exhibition
"Mixiing It Up - Digital Collage Paintings by Robert Masla"
,
at the D'Amour Museum of Fine Arts, in Springfield, Ma.
I had wanted to pay tribute to artists with whom I have had
personal interaction and with whom I deeply respect.

By clicking on the images that indicate they have details
a "detail page" showing close up sections of the image, will open in my
PhotoCollagePaintings.com website. This site is dedicated to displaying my
commissioned mixed media photo collage paintings.

Paul Winter
"Portrait of Paul Winter - A Celebration of the Music of Life"
A couple of years ago I had the good fortune of attending
(with my son, Brahm) a wonderful "Sound Music" workshop
conducted by Paul Winter at the Rowe Conference Center near
our home in MA. Pauls' music has inspired me since my early
teens when I first saw him perform the "Icarus" album with his
Winter Consort in Central Park. His deeply spiritual music and
that connection through the earth has always resonated with
me and throughout the years I often listen to his music when I
paint, particularly my "Grand Landscapes".
The idea for this series was born when Paul humbly and generously
agreed to pose for my camera at the workshop. This series,
(as you will see), has led to a much more painterly hand in the
Photo Collage Portraits, as I now incorporate an actual hand
painted portrait in the work.
